Rancho Del Oso Nature and History Center

Introduction:

Where? : Located on hwy 1, 18 miles north of Santa Cruz on the east side of Waddell Beach.

Google Map Link

What? : A small visitor center and hiking trail near the Waddell Creek.

When? : Year round but at winter you can to this as loop trail because the hiking river bridge is not there.

Due note 1: You can combine this visit and hike with visiting at Waddell Beach

Due note 2: The bridge crossing the river is being removed during winter (from October – late April) so you can’t cross it and can’t do a loop trail.

My thoughts: A short hike going into the dance river vegetation.

The visit:

This park is the coastal portion of Big Basin Redwoods State Park.

You can park at the Waddell Beach parking lot on hwy 1 at Skyline-To-The-Sea Trail head or you can get into the short Canyon dirt road on the south side of the river that is leading to the visitor center small parking lot.

From the visitor center there is an easy narrow trail that is getting into the dance river vegetation and after quarter of a mile you will reach the bridge that is crossing the river. Keep going another quarter mile and you will reach Skyline-To-The-Sea Trail, turn left and you will reach hwy 1.

You can turn around and go back to your starting point or do the loop on hwy1, overall loop distance is 1 mile.
