What? : Pigeon Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse built in 1871 to guide ships on the Pacific coast of California. It is the tallest lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States.

When? : Year round.

My thoughts: As enthusiastic photographer I always enjoy to visit this place, the tall “classic” lighthouse, the cliff and rocks provides many picture taking opportunities.

The visit:

The 115-foot Pigeon Point Lighthouse, one of the tallest lighthouses in America, has been guiding mariners since 1872.

The lighthouse, the hotel and the land around it are under State Historic Park protection. The lighthouse tower access is closed but the short trails surrounding the lighthouse and hostel.

There are few different places to park your car near the lighthouse; From each point you will have a different view of the lighthouse.

Wilbur's Watch: when approaching the lighthouse from the south there is a small road to your right that will take you to. Over here you have a nice trail above the Lighthouse area.

Pigeon Point Viewpoint Parking Lot: a small parking lot on the west side of the road just south of the Lighthouse road. Going here to the edge of the cliff will give you nice view of the cliff, ragged rocks in the ocean and the lighthouse.

HI Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel: Park your car near the hotel and explore the trails surrounding the Lighthouse, go to the platform at the edge of the cliff and enjoy the ocean view.

Pigeon Point Bluffs: park along Pigeon Point road north of the Lighthouse, go to the cliff and down to the ocean rocks. You can go north to Pistachio Beach.

2.5 miles south on hwy 1 you can find the Highway 1 Brewing Company that offer also food.
