Ocean Beaches near Half Moon Bay

Introduction:

My thoughts: There are many beaches near Half Moon Bay, a very popular activity at the summer days. Some are more crowded and other are less, many beaches also offer hiking trails on the cliffs above the ocean sandy beaches.

The visit:

I will cover few Half Moon Bay beaches; the list is organized from north to south.

You can go and enjoy the sandy beaches or hike the trails on the cliff above the ocean.

Surfers Beach:

Popular surfer beach right on the Half Moon Bay Marine Jetty. You can park on the side of hwy 1 or the parking lot across the hwy. From here you can hike south for many miles using the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail.

Half Moon Bay State Beach and Dunes Beach Parking Lot:

Long stretch of sandy beaches in front of Half Moon Bay. At this location, just north of the hwy 1 junction with hwy 92, there are large public parking and beach access.

Poplar Beach:

Located on the southern Half Moon Bay, here the Coastal Trail that going south on the cliff get into Wavecrest Open Space and beach. You can go all the way south to the Ritz-Carlton hotel.

Cowell Ranch Beach:

Park your car at the parking lot just on hwy 1. From here a half a mile hike will take you to Cowell Ranch Beach, there is a path that will take you from the high cliff to the beach. There is a 3.5 miles trail that is going south on the cliffs, this is the Cowell Purisima Coast Trail. You can go all the way to it end or turn around whenever you want.
