Introduction:
What? :
Nipton is an unincorporated community in the Ivanpah Valley, California, just on the border of Nevada.
With a population of about 15 – 20 it is located on the northeastern Mojave National Preserve, approximately 10 miles east of Ivanpah Solar Power Facility (interstate I 15). It is accessible via Nipton Road, Nevada State Route 164.
It is about twenty-minute drive from Primm, NV or 21 miles west of Searchlight, Nevada (highway 95).

There is no car service, food store or gas here.
This mining camp was established around 1905 to support the surrounding mines.
The nearby Union Pacific Railroad pass here from Salt Lake City & Las Vegas to Los Angeles at the west.
The town area is privately owned, and it passed several hands over the years, in 2023, Nipton was purchased by Spiegelworld, an American theater company, for $2.5 million.
When we visit here during our trip to the Mojave Desert the town looks like a “sleep” except for the art gift store near the RV park and the railroad crossing.
You can find here Hotel California and a few open field arts located in private land so I can’t see them up close.
Not a lot to do here but it is nice to stop and see this small and isolated community.
